Staying Lean and Focused
2025-02-27
Keeping your product lean and focused, especially during initial development, is hard. If you have an initial customer base, and assuming you engage regularly with them, you will inevitably get a lot of feature requests.
A lot, if not most, of these feature requests are only useful to that particular customer.
For that reason, it's important to really drill down on why the customer is requesting this particular feature. Find the underlying problem. Remember that it is your job to find the solution to this problem, assuming that the problem is something multiple customers are experiencing. The customer will always give you what they think is the best solution that works for them; they will not think about your other customers for you.
Adding too many "snowflake features" will kill momentum and your product down the line. It's best to avoid.
How are you dealing with feature creep from customers?
Yours,
Søren
