Choose quickly, but carefully - Tech Stack Essentials

2025-03-05

When creating a new product, most people will spend days, if not weeks, agonising over the choice of tech stack. Anyone that's ever developed anything frontend-related knows that a new framework pops up every 2 seconds. With this in mind, it's easy to gravitate towards the "latest and greatest" when building your new product.

This usually comes at the cost of speed. If you're a technical co-founder/CTO at a startup, only two things matter at the start: Pick something you're good at, and something others can learn quickly.

Everyone will tell you the first part. However, the second part is equally important: If you're an Elixir/Phoenix pro that can get things up and running in 5 minutes, that's great. But you may struggle to hire other developers in this niche, and so ultimately end up losing momentum anyway because you're spending months on your first hire.

So choose your tech stack quickly, but carefully.

Yours,
Søren
